As we move into the next phase of our new Office of Student Support Services, members of the local school district as well as parent leaders have been invited to serve on a Special Education Advocacy Cabinet. Previously, the Lawrence Public School district created a steering committee to consider the needs of students transitioning to increased opportunities for inclusion. This committee did excellent work and helped launch sustained and growing models of program excellence for students with Autism.  As we continue to consider our wider vision for inclusive opportunities, we would like to establish an Advocacy Cabinet to help us guide continuous improvement and communication to the larger community. The Cabinet looks forward to sharing a recently developed working definition for Inclusion for the Lawrence Public Schools.

The first meeting for the newly created Special Education Advisory Council was held Monday, December 9.

As part of the Initial Agenda for the Special Education Advisory Cabinet, the Lawrence Public Schools has developed a definition for the inclusion of students in our schools.
