A group of 31 dedicated LPS Teachers and Administrators spent the week at the national convening of UnboundEd's Standards Institute.  They joined more than 1200 educators from across the country for an intensive and transformative learning experience designed to improve, develop, and sustain instructional excellence. Our team is studying how the standards, content and systems can improve the performance all learners.

The Lawrence Public Schools were well represented in the annual Boston Globe Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. PFA had 11 award winning artists including Gold Key winners Rosanny Almonte and Brittany Ortiz. There were also 5 winners from the Parthum Middle School including Silver Key winner Erika Torres. Some of the Parthum student art is being displayed in the office of State Senator Barry Finegold. All Massachusetts students in grades 7-12 were eligible to submit their work.

The Guilmette Elementary and middle school were awarded a grant to have mural artist David Fichter to to their school to do an installation piece. Students created drawings of Lawrence wildlife which then transferred into a mural size mosaic.

Group meeting with Susan Paradis

Susan Paradis is a well-known author/illustrator of children's books and a retired public school teacher. Some of her recent works include The Snow Princess, My Mommy, My Daddy and Edna. She presented an outstanding workshop to the visual arts teachers in grades 1-8.
