FRM In-Person Return - Google Slides



Lawrence Public Schools does not have a "school uniform" requirement for students attending in-person learning for the remainder of the 2020-'21 school year.  Students attending in-person learning at the Robert L. Frost Middle School are encouraged to dress in accordance with the weather and in response to the learning environment.  Please be advised that students will not be afforded lockers for the remainder of the current school year so that we may limit student transitions and students congregating in large groups.  If necessary, parents may be called to bring appropriate attire to school for their child to wear during the school day.  

The following items will not be permitted during the in-person learning school day at FRM due to concerns for student safety.


*Face coverings with inappropriate graphics or artwork

*Hats of any kind worn in the school building

*Hoods of any kind worn in the school building

*Bandanas of any color for all students

*Excessively torn jeans as determined by school administration

*Excessively torn shorts as determined by school administration

*Ripped shirts

*Sleeveless shirts and/or half-shirts for all students

*Shirts, sweatshirts, or pants with inappropriate graphics or artwork

*Flip-flops, sandals, or slides or other "open-toed" style shoes

Robert L. Frost Middle School In-Person/Remote Learning Plan (April, 2021 through June, 2021)

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Lawrence Public Schools is prioritizing the return of in-person instruction, which will result in more students resuming full-time, in-person learning.  The plan will begin April 5, 2021 for grades K-5.  Grades 6-8 will return to in-person learning April 28, 2021.  Families have the choice to send their children to school in-person or remain remote for the remainder of the 2020-’21 school year.  Learning hours for remote students will continue to count toward structured learning time. 

COVID safety measures at the Frost Middle School will include mask wearing, hand hygiene, physical distancing of three feet, regular cleaning and disinfecting, symptom screening, and contact tracing.  Following DESE COVID health protocols, individual students may need to isolate or quarantine and therefore learn remotely if they are symptomatic, diagnosed with COVID-19, or found to be a close contact of someone who tests positive for COVID.  We will continue to communicate with our families to send key messages related to our school’s operations.  Please contact FRM with questions. 

Understanding students are returning to in-person learning for the first time this school year, FRM will provide additional supports to help all students make a successful transition.  We will create a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages positive practices.  Students’ schedules for in-person and remote learning will remain consistent with the current situation.  All curriculum, assessment, and learning systems will remain the same through June.  Use of outdoor spaces on school grounds will be maximized for in-person student activity.  Students learning from home will participate in largely the same classroom activities as students learning in-person.  Families who wish to have their student switch from a remote to in-person model should be aware that the school may require a reasonable transition period to allow for the change in learning status.

The FRM school day begins at 8:00AM and ends at 1:30PM.  Please ensure your child’s plan for dismissal each day to maintain proper safety.  FRM staff will monitor student activity during meals in the classroom at 8:00AM and 1:00PM each day.  Breakfast and lunch will be served each day with six feet distancing in place.  Staff will ensure students maintain appropriate mask wearing during the academic school day, monitor anticipated but limited hallway transition, provide signage to indicate appropriate safety protocols, and manage a bathroom sign-out system.  Students will remain in self-contained classrooms and mask breaks will be afforded throughout the day.  Students are asked to bring their Chromebook to and from school each day to maximize in-school and at-home learning.  Lockers are not available at this time.  FRM’s enrichment and specialized after-school programs will remain virtual.

Due to the pandemic, we will be conducting Term 2 conferences remotely via Zoom. We are using SignUp Genius to schedule conferences in 15-minute increments and meeting in two teams. Each team will have a Math/Science/Literacy teacher. Our support staff for SPED, ELL, translation, and Integrated Studies will join as needed.

If a family/parent needs to speak with one of the other teachers that are not present, we will record that request and provide them to the appropriate staff member. That staff member can then reach out to that family via email, phone call, or Zoom at another time.  Please be prompt and on time. It's better to be early and wait a few moments in the waiting room. If you are late for the meeting, parents only get the remaining time in that time slot. If you are unable to meet during the allotted days/times, please reach out to your student's HR teacher to schedule a meeting at a later, agreed-upon time.

The last day for Term II is Friday, March 19.  LPS will host Report Card Conferences from March 29 through April 2.  More information to be provided.


ALL students in grades 5-8 will take the Measures of Academic Progress test in English Language Arts and Math on the following dates:

March 2 and March 9 – Grades 7 and 8  (March 3 and March 10 for make-ups)

March 4 and March 11 – Grades 5 and 6 (March 5 and March 12 for make-ups)
