Hispanic Heritage Dance

On October 17th, the Abbott Lawrence Academy community gathered in the Performing Arts Center to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The event featured a synopsis of Hispanic Heritage Month, the presentation of Latin American flags, a community video on Latinidad, poetry, music, dance, and a panel of invited guests from the community. A special thank you to the following community members who served on the panel and shared what being Latino means to them:


  • Pavel Payano (City Councilor At-Large, Lawrence MA)
  • Fabian Guerrero (Police Lieutenant, Lawrence Police Department)
  • Gabriela Taveras (Miss Massachusetts, Lawrence MA)
  • Pascual Ruiz (Fire Inspector/Investigator, Lawrence Fire Department)
  • Kendrys Vasquez (City Council President, Lawrence MA)
LHS Writing Contest Winners

The LHS Spanish Teachers from the Upper School and ALA worked with the committee of the Feria internacional del libro to bring authors to Spanish classes on the Friday of the weekend-long event hosted annually in Lawrence to promote literacy, celebrate art and culture, and bring famous Hispanic authors to our community. This year celebrated Puerto Rico, and authors  spent the day teaching writing workshops and talking about their writing professions with Spanish students of all grades and levels.


The Feria also held a ceremony to honor LHS teachers, recognize the work of four student authors who received awards as part of the writing contest, and showcase student performances in poetry, music, and dance.

ALA Staff Halloween

In ALA Tradition, the Abbott Lawrence Academy staff surprised students yet again with this year's Halloween theme for costumes...Emojis!

Pep Rally

On October 31st, the ALA Staff and Students celebrated the second annual Academic Pep Rally to recognize students' academic achievements. Students were honored for their MCAS Scores, AP Scores and qualifying for the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship in addition to a surprise music video performed by the ALA Staff, entitled "Star Students", adapted from Nicki Minaji's "Starships."

- 100% Pass rates for 2017-2018 Merrimack College Intro to Biological Principles 

- 98% Pass rates for 2017-2018 Merrimack College Intro to Government and Politics Course

- Growing our Early College Program Partnership at Merrimack College from 57 students in year one of the program last year to 140 ALA students taking Early College Courses at Merrimack College!!
