"Congratulations! You are a National Scholastic Art & Writing Award Medalist." This was the news that PFA Junior Elissa Salas received when her silver medal in photography was announced.
This is the first time in the 90 year history of the Scholastic Awards that a Lawrence High School student received the honor and will participate in a special ceremony at Carnegie Hall in May.
Scholastic received 230,000 submissions this year and only 1% received national recognition. Winning this award puts Elissa in the good company of past winners including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Ken Burns and Joyce Carol Oates.
The Lawrence Public Schools community is proud of this talented young photographer and wishes her all the best as she enjoys this recognition.
