About LPS: Seven Essentials

Core to the District's educational mission is a customized system developed in the Lawrence Public Schools that defines and prioritizes our work, and structures the ways in which we communicate with each other. This system incorporates the Seven Essentials of School Leadership as outlined below:

  • Leadership and School Culture
  • Coherent Curriculum
  • Instructional Practices
  • Assessment and Accountability
  • Professional Learning
  • Student Support Services
  • Family and Community Engagement

In her 2008 article in the Lawrence Educator, Dr. Gail Rosengard described the Seven Essentials as "a type of 'insurance policy;' a way of making sure that what's important gets done, gets done well, and best serves the needs of students."
