Dear LPS Community,

With the final break of the year now behind us, I’d like to take a moment to highlight the Lawrence Public Schools’ first Acceleration Academies.

Held throughout both the February and April vacations, the Academies put nearly 2,000 students in front of roughly 250 Sontag Prize-winning teachers.  Mostly from Lawrence but also from around the country, these educators embraced the opportunity to learn from other talented peers while applying their own effective style to small groups of students eager to take the next academic step.

I expect Acceleration Academies to have important short and long term benefits for students, teachers and the Lawrence Public School system as a whole. Congratulations to everyone involved on making the first year a positive, successful experience.
